Our History
The Sassenachs Ceilidh Band are a London-based ceilidh band, founded by drummer and ceilidh caller Laurie Don. He previously performed with the Dundee, Scotland based ceilidh band Sporran Again for over 10 years before moving to London in 2011 and collecting the Capital's best talent together to found The Sassenachs Ceilidh Band more formally in 2015.
The Sassenachs Ceilidh Band have performed hundreds of times at venues across the country, regularly performing at weddings, birthdays, burns night's, corporate events, private events, festivals and public ceilidhs. You can find a wealth of Google reviews outlining positive review after positive review.
The band is a regular performer with the Ceilidh Club, in particular at Cecil Sharp House in Camden, and this allows prospective wedding and event clients to see and experience the band before booking. There are also opportunities when the Ceilidh Club runs it frequent events elsewhere, such as at London Scottish House, Queen Elizabeth House and Grand Junction.
These public performances in combination with the band's residencies elsewhere, such as for Burns' Night Week at Big Penny Social in Walthamstow, provide over 30 opportunities a year to come along and experience the joy the Sassenachs Ceilidh Band bring to ceilidh events first hand.
